Day 5

So it's the end of my gossip column and back to serious stuff from next week,,!!

Hmmm,,what am I gonna focus on today?? I suppose I could pick a timely topic such as the development of Sri Lanka. I will not be lecturing about anything political but only on some ideas I want to be seen being carried out here to make the development process more effective.

I have never been a person to speak low of my country whereas I have always been proud of it despite its poor state. However, I desperately have a need to see this country become one of the best places in the world as I firmly believe that we do not lack any potential. Interestingly, one of the major steps we should do in order to achieve this status would be an immediate change of attitude per my belief. To be frank, why would people go abroad and stay as law-abiding citizens and become a totally different self once they are in Sri Lanka? Nobody would dare to litter the streets while in USA or UK, yet once arriving at this country they seem to think it's fine to do so.

Futhermore, Sri Lankans needs to be more aware of environmental issues else no development could make the country seem nicer to live in. I have no idea whether it comes from our genetics, because most Sri Lankans prefer to dispatch their garbage in the premises of somebody else or most probably on the road itself. The underlying issue is, the first priority of the people here seems to be their own property and not the country itself. The funny thing is that they do not seem to realize that their property is a part of the country itself.

We would destroy the trees in our own places and visit forests and other nice environments for our relaxation. Isn't it a bit ironic? Moreover, we do not seem to have any need of protecting the environment we were so lucky to have whereas Singaporeans who do not have much space or environment of their own, have started creating synthetic environments for their entertainment.

In addition, proper places for posters and notices would have to be created and I am hopefully waiting for a day when shops are created with a certain distance from the road and with nicer quality. Well, these are only some of my personal thoughts but I await with optimism that some lucky day they would come true!
